AI Rewrite
AI rewrite works on one subtitle at a time. It is the everyday tool: a subtitle that reads too fast, a clumsy line break, and the AI suggests a version that passes validation.
Starting a Rewrite
Every subtitle in the list has a brain button (AI rewrite) in its action bar. It turns orange when the AI likely has something to offer: reading speed too high, hanging word, unbalanced lines, anti-pyramidal shape, or a note from the global review.
One click is enough. Scene Cut picks the right treatment based on the subtitle's state:

To force a specific treatment, right-clicking a subtitle also offers Condense (AI), Pyramid layout (AI), and Spelling and grammar (AI), the last one fixing mistakes only, without rephrasing.
To preserve tone, forms of address, and names, the AI also reads the 3 preceding and 2 following subtitles. It does not modify them.
Reading the Suggestion
The AI Suggestion window shows the Original and the Proposal side by side, with each line's character count against the profile limit. A Compliant badge confirms the proposal meets the project's standards.
- Accept (
Return) replaces the subtitle text. - Reject (
Esc) closes the window without changing anything.
If standards locking is on and the accepted text still reads too fast, the subtitle's duration is extended automatically, pushing its neighbors if needed.
Talking to the AI
If the suggestion doesn't fit, the Reformulate button opens a feedback field. Write in plain language, as you would to an adapter:
- "stay formal, he addresses his mother formally"
- "shorter, keep the pun"
- "don't touch the boat's name"
Send produces a new proposal that takes this feedback into account. The exchange can be repeated as many times as needed.
Rewrite vs. Quick Fix
The quick fix (magic wand, Cmd + K) mainly adjusts duration and typography, without touching the meaning. AI rewrite works on the words. They complement each other: quick fix first, the AI when the text itself is too long.
