AI Translation
AI translation produces a first translation draft already tuned for subtitling: each line respects the maximum length, and reading speed stays within the profile's limits. Adaptation work can then start from a clean base.
Choosing the Target Language
The AI translates into the project language, the one set by the active language pack (see Project language). The source language is detected automatically.
To translate an English file into French: import the English subtitles, set the project language to French, then start the translation.
Starting the Translation
Tools > Translate (AI), or Shift + Cmd + T.
- With subtitles selected, only the selection is translated.
- With no selection, the whole project is translated.
Text is sent in batches of 20 subtitles. Each batch gets the preceding subtitles as context, to keep names, forms of address, and register consistent from start to finish.
What the AI Respects
- the meaning of the dialogue, above all;
- idioms, adapted rather than translated word for word;
- the register: casual, formal, slang;
- 2 lines at most, each under the profile's character limit;
- the maximum reading speed: if the translation runs long, it is condensed;
- the typographic rules of the target language.
Review Before Applying
Translations appear in the AI Translation window, one at a time, with the original alongside and a counter such as 3 / 120 at the top.
- Accept (
Return) applies the translation and moves to the next one. - Reject (
Esc) keeps the original and moves to the next one. - Accept all applies all remaining translations at once.
