Spelling and Rebalance

Fix only language mistakes, or redistribute text across several subtitles of the same scene.

Two tools work on several subtitles at once. They live in the Tools menu, and their proposals are reviewed one by one before being applied.

Spelling and Grammar

Tools > Spelling and grammar (AI) fixes language mistakes only:

  • spelling, including accents;
  • commonly confused words for the project language;
  • agreements and conjugations;
  • punctuation, including language-specific spacing.

Nothing else changes: no rephrasing, no condensing, no new line breaks. Use it on a file delivered by someone else, or right before delivery.

  • With subtitles selected, only the selection is checked.
  • With no selection, the whole project is checked, in batches of 20.

Only subtitles that contain a mistake come back in the AI Spelling window.

The global AI review also flags mistakes, but as notes to handle one by one, with style and consistency on top. The spelling tool proposes the corrected text directly.

Rebalancing Several Subtitles

When a line of dialogue is split across three subtitles, the first one is sometimes overloaded while the third is nearly empty. Rebalancing moves text between them so each subtitle reads comfortably.

Tools > Rebalance (AI) works in two ways:

SituationWhat gets rebalanced
2 or more subtitles selectedthe selection, treated as a single group
No selection (or a single subtitle)Scene Cut finds the problem groups across the whole project on its own

In the second case, a group ends at every cut point, every pause longer than one second, every locked subtitle, and at the switch between a dialogue subtitle (with dashes) and a regular one. Only groups of at least two subtitles where at least one breaks the standard (reading speed, line length, hanging word, balance) are sent.

What the AI respects:

  • timecodes don't move: only the text moves;
  • the dialogue's meaning and order stay the same;
  • each subtitle stays understandable on its own;
  • the profile's line length and reading speed. If moving text isn't enough, it is condensed.

Review Before Applying

Proposals appear one at a time, with the original alongside:

  • Accept (Return) applies the proposal and moves to the next one;
  • Reject (Esc) keeps the original;
  • Accept all applies all remaining proposals at once.

Every accepted proposal can be undone with Cmd + Z.
